It was exactly two years ago, that I first landed in Denmark, so I thought I should celebrate this day with a blog entry (at least … and some wine).

My story
Back in 2011, I came here to start my exciting time at a Danish folk high-school: Hadsten Højskole (heart here) as one of the ten international students plus a lot more Danish ones.

I had no idea what a “folk high-school” covers, but I was very attracted by the diversity of the subjects that one could chose varying between social sciences, sports, arts, health, psychology and last but not least Danish language and culture. It sounded as something to good to be true disposing of almost everything that I was(/am) interested in. Does such a thing exist? And it is for free? (Raised eyebrow) I was totally confused at first glance.

It turned out that CIRIUS scholarship and Denmark makes all this possible!
So there was I with eyes wide open to absorb this novel environment and make the most of it!

Højskole- universe
One should imagine a folk high-school as a micro-universe, an operation system -if you want- with its own inner logic and rules. Folk high-schools are also the forerunners of Danish democracy and nowadays work as a perfect place to develop social skills or foster young people’s decision regarding the education that they intend to take in the future.
As an appetizer I prepared a little video for you, dear reader!

Now that you know how a højskole-universe looks like, you should really consider trying it!
You are not convinced yet? Stay tuned!
